Understanding Matter Record
Learn how to use data stored or previously entered in submissions in Smarter Drafter Pro.
Smarter Drafter Matter Record allows previously entered data for a matter to be reused in subsequent submissions, reducing the need to rekey information. This reduces the need for rekeying information saving time and improving consistency.
Matter Record is ideal for consistent, reusable information such names, contact details, property and transaction details, employment information and more.
Smarter Drafter stores data in an entity, which can then be assigned to a form to bring in the relevant information. Entities refer to persons, companies, properties, court room details etc that exist for a matter.
For example, an entity could be John Smith who is the Client for a matter. John's details such as his name is stored as a field alias (eg, client_name) in the Matter Record, which allows this information to be used in one or more forms. Knowing John plays the role of a Client, then allows John to be automatically assigned to a form which may have the role of a Client.

How it works
First time filling in a form for a matter may not have any data stored, therefore the form filler will need to manually add the information. Upon submission, new entities such as Client, Vendor, Property Address information will be stored for the matter in Smarter Drafter.

Next time when filling in a form for that matter, any relevant data previously entered will automatically be populated. Smarter Drafter does this by analysing whether there are any Entities that have played a role in the matter, then assigning these Entities and bringing in their data.

Smarter Drafter has deeper integrations with Actionstep and Unity, that brings in data from these systems into Smarter Drafter forms. Assigning a contact from Actionstep or Unity will bring in data from these sources and will not store any additional data captured in Smarter Drafter if a contact is assigned from either of these two data sources.
A future release will combine these two data sources together so that data stored in Smarter Drafter will work alongside Actionstep or Unity.
