Apply User Mapping to Fields
Learn how to apply user mapping to form fields
User Mapping allows you to connect specific fields in your form to the data available in a user’s profile. This ensures that relevant user details are automatically populated in the form, streamlining the process and reducing manual data entry.
Instructions
1. Create a New Section
- In your form, create a new section where you will add the fields that need to be mapped to user details.
- Set the section name, alias, and any other required properties.
2. Add Fields for Required User Details
- Add the fields that you want to populate with user data (e.g., name, email, position, etc.).
- For each field, ensure the proper alias and properties are set to match the data being mapped (e.g., text fields for name and email).
3. Open the User Mapping Interface
- In the section banner, click on the waffle menu (three dots or options menu).
- Select Map fields to users from the dropdown.

4. Map Fields to User Profile Data
- A list of available user details from the profile will appear. These are the details that can be mapped to the fields in your form.
- For each field, use the dropdown list to select the corresponding user profile detail. If a matching field is available, it will show in the dropdown.
- If no matching field has been created, you won’t see any options to map those details.

5. Use the ‘Guess Map’ Feature (Optional)
- If you prefer, you can click the Guess Map button. Smarter Drafter will automatically try to map the fields to the most likely user details based on field type.
- Review the mapping to ensure everything is correct, and manually adjust any fields as necessary.
6. Close the User Mapping Window
- Once the fields are correctly mapped, click the X in the top-right corner to close the User Mapping window.
7. Save and Continue Form Building
- Continue building the form as usual. The user details will be automatically populated when the form filler enters matching information (e.g., typing a name).
Common Issues & Solutions
- Issue: Field not appearing in the User Mapping dropdown.
- Solution: Make sure the field you want to map has been created in the form and that it matches the type of data in the user profile (e.g., a text field for a name).
- Issue: The mapping isn’t working as expected after applying.
- Solution: Double-check that you’ve mapped the correct fields and that the data is available in the user profile. If necessary, manually update the profile.
