How to Update a Draft Submission After a Template Is Revised
If you begin a submission and leave it unfinished for several days or weeks, it remains connected to the version of the template that was active when you started. If that template has since been updated, your draft will still generate using the old version. This means your final document may not reflect the latest legal or formatting changes. In some cases, outdated templates may even be rejected by external bodies (for example, courts or regulators).
Before You Begin
Check whether a new version of the form or template has been released. Updates are listed on the Dashboard under What’s New.
Instructions
- Locate your draft submission in Smarter Drafter.
- Clone the submission.
- This keeps your existing answers, but reconnects the draft to the latest version of the form or template.

- Review your answers in the new version to confirm all fields appear as expected.
Tip: If you’re unsure whether your draft is linked to an older template, it’s safest to clone it before generating the final document.
