How to Navigate the Word Add-In (Builder Version)

Learn how to navigate the Word Add-in (builder version) in Smarter Drafter Pro.

The Smarter Drafter Word Add-In gives you access to all the fields, rules, and tools you need to automate your templates. This guide walks you through the different tabs and menus available in the builder version of the Add-In, and what each one is used for.

Instructions

Open the Word Add-In

  1. Open your .docx template in Microsoft Word.
  2. Ensure the Smarter Drafter Word Add-In is installed, and the document is linked to a form.
  3. The Add-In panel will open on the right-hand side.

Understand the Key Tabs

Forms Tab
Displays all the sections and fields from your linked form.

  • Click a section to reveal the fields inside.
  • Use this tab to insert fields into your document.

Conditional Rules Tab
Lists all the rules created in the form.

  • Use this tab to insert conditional content (covered in another article).
  • Helps manage optional paragraphs or logic-based text.

More Tab
Access advanced features such as:
  • Named ranges
  • Content blocks
  • Snippets
  • Company/user data
  • Uploads
  • E-Signature Fields

Testing Tab
Compares the template to the form to detect:
  • Unused fields
  • Missing field connections



Use the Option Menu

Click the Options in the Add-In to access key utilities:

  • Change Form
  • Refresh Form
  • Upload Template
  • Preview Form
  • Run Field Test



Tips for Use

  • Use the search bar inside each tab to quickly find fields or rules.
  • Tabs update automatically when you refresh the form.
  • Run the Testing Tab before final upload to catch missing elements.


Common Issues & Solutions

  • Issue: The Add-In is blank or missing tabs.
  • Solution: Ensure the document is linked to a form. Without a linked form, the builder tools won’t appear.
  • Issue: Can’t see a field I just added to the form.
  • Solution: Click the Waffle menu and select Refresh Form to sync changes.
