How to Use Rich Text Fields for Guidance Notes
Learn how to use rich text fields for guidance notes in Smarter Drafter Pro.
Rich Text fields are used to provide static content inside your form—like instructions, explanations, or contextual information. They’re not meant to collect answers but to guide the form filler. This guide explains how to add and configure Rich Text fields.
Instructions
- Open your form in the Form Builder.
- Click Add Field in the section where you want the information to appear.
- From the list of field types, select Rich Text.
- In the Rich Text editor, enter your content. You can:
- Format text (bold, italics, lists, etc.)
- Insert hyperlinks
- Add images or icons
- Click Save.
NOTE: Rich Text fields appear inline in the form but don’t collect data. They’re best used to explain why you’re asking for certain information or to give next-step instructions.
Tips for Use
- Use Rich Text to provide context or instructions directly in the form.
- You can place Rich Text fields anywhere in a section—they follow the same drag-and-drop rules as any other field.
- Rich Text fields are visible to the form filler but don’t appear in the final document output unless specifically included in your Word template.
Common Issues & Solutions
- Issue: The Rich Text field appears in the final document.
- Solution: Check your Word template to ensure that Rich Text content isn’t mapped to output unless intended.
- Issue: I want the user to type into the Rich Text field.
- Solution: Rich Text fields are read-only. If you want user input with formatting, use a Text Area field with Rich Text enabled instead.
