How to Set Case Format for Field Output

Learn how to set case format for field output in Smarter Drafter Pro.

Setting the correct case format for field output ensures that names, addresses, and other text appear professionally formatted in your final document. This guide shows you how to apply or override case settings when building your form or editing your Word template.

Instructions

Set Case Format in the Form Builder

  1. In the Form Builder, add or edit a field.
  2. Scroll to the Case setting (under Field Properties).
  3. Choose one of the following options:
    • None (no case applied)
    • UPPERCASE
    • lowercase
    • Title Case
  4. Click save.

TIP: Use None for fields like names or addresses to preserve correct spelling (e.g. “McDonald” or “Smith-Jones”).

Override Case Format in the Word Add-in

  1. Open your Word template and navigate to a field already inserted.
  2. Click into the field to activate the Word Add-in panel.
  3. In the panel, locate the Case Override setting.
  4. Choose a different case format from the dropdown if needed.
  5. Save the updated template.

NOTE: Case formatting in the Word template will override the default set in the form if both are applied.

Tips for Use

  • Use Title Case for names, job titles, and organisations.
  • Use UPPERCASE for reference numbers or codes.
  • Avoid applying default case to address or name fields unless it’s intentional.

Common Issues & Solutions

  • Issue: A name like “McDonald” appears as “Mcdonald” in the document.
  • Solution: Set the Case to None in the form builder to preserve the filler’s original input.
  • Issue: Case formatting in the document doesn’t match what’s set in the form.
  • Solution: Check the Word template—overrides in the Word Add-in may be applying a different case setting.
