How to Clone a Section (Within or to Another Form)
Learn how to clone a section, within or to another form, in Smarter Drafter Pro.
Cloning a section saves time when you need to reuse a group of fields—either in the same form or across different forms. This guide shows you how to clone a section and explains what happens to field IDs and logic during the process.
Instructions
Clone a Section Within the Same Form
- Open your form in the Form Builder.
- Find the section you want to clone.
- Click the Options icon next to the section heading.
- Select Clone Here from the dropdown menu.
- A new copy of the section will appear directly below the original.
- Update the section alias in the cloned version.
TIP: All fields in the cloned section will receive new field IDs. Any text in the section that references specific terms (e.g. “Applicant”) can be batch-updated in the clone (e.g. to “Respondent”).
NOTE: You won’t be able to save until the alias is updated to something unique.
Clone a Section to Another Form
- Open the form containing the section you want to clone.
- Click the waffle icon next to the section heading.
- Select Clone to Another Form.
- In the pop-up, navigate through the folder structure and select your destination form.
- Click Select.
- Open the destination form and drag the new section to the desired position if needed.
TIP: The cloned section will be added to the end of the draft version of the destination form. New section and field IDs will be generated, and conditional rules, logic, and calculations will update automatically.
Common Issues & Solutions
- Issue: The cloned section won’t save.
- Solution: Check that the section alias has been updated. It must be unique in the form.
- Issue: My conditional logic didn’t carry over correctly.
- Solution: All IDs should update automatically. If something doesn’t look right, double-check any manually entered logic or calculations.
