How to Add a Matter Reference Field

The Matter field allows you to capture or reference a unique Matter ID from your connected system. It’s particularly useful for linking submissions to specific cases or client records. This guide explains how to add a Matter field to your form and when to use it.
Instructions
- In the Form Builder, click Add Field in the relevant section.
- Select Matter from the field type list.
- Enter your question label (e.g. “Matter Reference” or “Linked Matter”).
- Click Save.
NOTE: The Matter field connects to your practice management system to pull in or validate the Matter ID.
Tips for Use
- Matter fields are often used in intake or internal forms to keep data linked to the correct file or case.
- This field may be auto-filled if your system supports prefilled intake forms or mapped contacts.
- The Matter ID can be used in document templates, conditional logic, or to group responses for reporting.
Common Issues & Solutions
- Issue: The Matter field is showing as blank in the document output.
- Solution: Confirm that the Matter field has been filled correctly during the form submission and is mapped correctly in your Word template.
- Issue: The field isn’t connecting to the Matter list.
