How to Build, Manage, and Import a Section Block

Learn how to build, manage, and import a section block in Smarter Drafter Pro.

Section blocks are reusable form components (aka sections or groups of sections) made up of grouped fields, logic, and layout. Once built, they can be imported into any form and maintained centrally. This article shows you how to create a section block, manage where it’s stored, and import it into other forms.

1. Create a Section Block

  1. Navigate to Build > Section Blocks.
  2. Click New Section block
  3. Give your section block a clear name (a section block alias will be created automatically based on the name).
  4. Enter the folder where the section block should be located.
  5. Click Save.
  6. The Section Block form builder screen will open, ready for you to start building the required section/sections.

A section block can utilise the same functions as ordinary forms and sections. When building the sections within the Section Block you can apply:

    • Logic
    • Conditional Rules
    • Contact and User Mapping
    • Data Mapping
    • Repeats

NOTE:

  • Conditional Rules created in the section block will automatically transfer to all forms where the section block has been imported.
  • Data Mapping must be done at the section block level and will apply to all the forms the section block is imported into. It’s not possible to map record types to the fields contained in a section block in the form where it was imported.

2. Import a Section Block into a Form

  1. Navigate to an existing form
  2. At the desired point in the form, in between sections click the Import section block button.
  3. Browse or search for the section block you want to import.
  4. Click Select to add it to your form.

NOTE: Once imported, the section is locked. You can’t edit the section inside the form - changes must be made in the original section block.

Tips for Use

  • Use section blocks to standardise repetitive data capture (e.g. parties, addresses, payments).
  • Always test imported blocks using the Test button to confirm logic and other properties behave as expected.

Common Issues & Solutions

  • Issue: I can’t edit a section after importing it into a form.
  • Solution: Section blocks are read-only once imported. Go back to the original block via Build > Section blocks to make changes.
  • Issue: My imported section is blank or not appearing.
  • Solution: Ensure the section block was saved correctly and that you have access to the folder it’s stored in.
