How to Label Repeating Section Fields with Repetition Numbers

Learn how to label repeating section fields with repetition numbers in Smarter Drafter Pro.

When using Repeating Sections in your form, it's helpful to label each field with its repetition number (e.g., Child 1, Child 2, etc.). This makes it easier for form fillers to understand and differentiate the entries. This guide explains how to automatically label fields in a Repeating Section with repetition numbers.

Instructions

1. Open the Form Editor

  • Navigate to the form where you want to apply repetition numbers. Click on Forms in the main menu, then select the form to edit.

2. Select the Repeating Section

  • In the form editor, click on the Repeating Section where you want to label the fields. This section will have a Repeatable pill in its banner.

3. Go to the Section Settings

  • In the section properties panel, locate the Heading or Field Label where you want the repetition numbers to appear.

4. Insert the Command

  • In the Heading or Field Label text box, enter the command where you want the repetition number to appear.
  • For example, if the field is for entering a child's name, you might set the field label to: "Child Name".
  • The command will automatically increment for each repeat instance (Child 1, Child 2, Child 3, etc.).

5. Save the Section

  • After setting up the repetition number label, click Save to apply the changes. When the form is filled out, each instance of the Repeating Section will have a label like "Child 1," "Child 2," etc., based on the order in which the repeats are added.

Common Issues & Solutions

  • Issue: The repetition number isn’t appearing in the label.
  • Solution: Make sure you’ve added the command correctly in the field label or heading. Check for any typos or formatting issues.
  • Issue: The repetition numbers are not incrementing.
  • Solution: Verify that the Repeatable checkbox is selected in the section properties. If the repeat functionality is not enabled, the command will not work.
