What Edits Can Be Made to a Child Form

Learn what edits can be made to a child form in Smarter Drafter Pro.

When working with child forms, it’s important to understand which edits are allowed to ensure the integrity of the parent-child relationship. This guide outlines the specific changes you can make to a child form, while keeping the connection to the parent form intact.

Instructions

1. Change the Label of a Section

  • You can modify the label of any section in the child form. This allows you to customize the form without altering the parent form’s structure.

2. Change the Label of a Field

  • Similarly, you can change the label of any field in the child form, making it more relevant to the specific use case of that child form.

3. Hide Entire Sections

  • You have the option to hide entire sections in the child form. This is useful if certain sections in the parent form are not necessary for the child form.

4. Set Individual Fields to ‘Hidden’

  • For more granular control, you can set specific fields to be hidden, allowing the rest of the section to remain visible while excluding certain fields from view.

5. Modify Field Settings

  • You can adjust the following settings for individual fields in the child form:
    • Mandatory: Mark a field as mandatory (required) or leave it optional.
    • Read-Only: Set the field to be read-only, preventing the user from editing it.
    • Optional: Leave a field as optional, so users are not required to fill it in.

6. Set or Change Default Values

  • You can change or set new default values for fields in the child form. This allows you to pre-fill fields based on the specific needs of the child form.

7. Add Supporting Text

  • Add helpful supporting text or instructions to any field or section to guide the user in filling out the form properly.

Common Issues & Solutions

  • Issue: My changes are not reflected in the child form after editing.
  • Solution: Remember that if you change any specific question or field in the child form, it will disconnect that field from future updates in the parent form. Review your edits to ensure that only the fields you intend to modify are changed.
  • Issue: The changes I made in the child form are not visible.
  • Solution: Check if you have accidentally hidden sections or fields in the child form. Also, confirm that the Hide All toggle is set correctly if you're hiding sections.
