Understanding and Creating Option Sets

Learn how to understand and create option sets in Smarter Drafter Pro.

Option Sets are reusable lists of options that can be applied to multiple fields across different forms. They save time, reduce duplication, and help ensure consistency in lists like Yes/No, States and Territories, or Days of the Week.

Instructions

1. Understand when to use an Option Set

  • Create an Option Set if you find yourself reusing the same list across multiple forms. Common examples include:
    • Yes / No
    • Australian States and Territories
    • Relationship types
    • Gender
    • Days of the week
  • Instead of manually rebuilding the list each time, you can save it once and reuse it anywhere.

Option Set Method 1: Create in Application Settings

2. Create an Option Set from scratch

  1. Go to Settings > Option Sets.
  2. Click + New Option Set.
  3. Give your set a name (e.g. “States and Territories”).
  4. Click + New Option to begin adding items.
  5. Enter a label for each item (e.g. Queensland). The value will be assigned automatically.
  6. Continue adding items as needed.
  7. Click Save when finished.

Option Set Method 2: Save a Custom List from a Field

3. Convert a field-level list into an Option Set

  1. While building a field (Radio, Checkbox, or Select), go to the Options tab.
  2. Build your custom list of options.
  3. Click Save as Option Set at the top of the Options panel.
  4. Enter a name for the set and click Save.

  • The list will be saved both in the current field and in the Option Sets library for reuse.

Common Issues & Solutions

  • Issue: Option Set appears incomplete in a new field
  • Solution: Check that you applied the full Option Set. After inserting, you can edit individual options if needed — changes won't affect the original set.
  • Issue: Set wasn’t saved for reuse
  • Solution: Ensure you clicked Save as Option Set and gave it a name. If the list only lives in the field, it won’t appear in Settings.
