Applying Logic to Template Selection
Learn how to apply logic to a template section in Smarter Drafter Pro.
You can attach multiple document templates to a single form and use logic to control which templates are generated based on the answers provided. This allows a single form to support multiple document types or outcomes.
Instructions
1. Attach multiple templates to your form
- In the form builder, go to the Templates tab.
- Click + Add Template to attach each document you may want to generate.
- Repeat this process for all applicable templates.
2. Apply logic to each template
- For each attached template, click the Logic tab.
- Click + Rule to add a condition.
- Select the controlling field (e.g. Document Type), choose the operator (e.g. =), and enter the value that should trigger that template.
- Save the logic.
- Example:
- Template A is only generated if Document Type = Lease
- Template B is generated if Document Type = Sale Agreement
3. Repeat for other templates
- Apply logic to each template individually to define when it should or shouldn’t be generated.
- You can use single rules or more complex rule sets if needed.
4. Preview and test
- In Preview, fill out the form using different input combinations.
- When the document is generated, only the templates that match the logic conditions will be included.
Common Issues & Solutions
- Issue: All templates generate regardless of answers
- Solution: Make sure logic is applied to each template. If no logic is applied, the template will always be included.
- Issue: No template generates
- Solution: Confirm the controlling field values match exactly and the logic conditions return TRUE. Use Preview mode to test.
