How to Set Up e-Signatures in a Template
Learn how to set up e-Signatures in a template in Smarter Drafter Pro.
Setting up e-Signatures in a template allows you to streamline the document signing process. With e-Signatures fields pre-configured in your template, documents are automatically ready to be sent for e-signing without needing further adjustments.
Instructions
1. Ensure e-Signatures are Enabled
- Before you can use e-Signature fields in your template, e-Signatures must be enabled in your Smarter Drafter account. If you don’t see the e-Signature tools, contact your account administrator to enable them.
2. Set Up Contact or User Mapping
- e-Signature fields need to know who the potential signees are. For this, you must apply contact or user mapping.
- Navigate to the Settings > Contact Mapping or User Mapping.
- Follow the guide for mapping contacts or users to the relevant sections of your form.
3. Open Your Template in Smarter Drafter
- Once mapping is set, open your template in the Smarter Drafter Word Add-in. Ensure that the template is set up with fields that require e-Signatures.
4. Insert e-Signature Fields
- To insert e-Signature fields into your template, follow these steps:
- In the Word Add-in, click More > e-Signature Fields.
- Select the appropriate signatory from the list of mapped contacts or users.
- Choose the e-Signature component (Signature, Name, Initials, Date, Capacity, or Checkbox) from the available options.
- Click Add to insert the selected field into your template.
- Repeat this step for all required fields in the document (e.g., signatures, initials, date).
5. Finalise and Save the Template
- After adding all necessary e-Signature fields, ensure the formatting fits your document. Save the template. Your template is now ready for use with e-Signatures.
Common Issues & Solutions
- Issue: e-Signature fields are not appearing in the Word Add-in
- Solution: Check that you have applied contact or user mapping in the template sections. Without this mapping, the e-Signature fields will not appear in the Word Add-in.
- Issue: e-Signature fields don’t align properly in the document
- Solution: Adjust the spacing and formatting in the Word document. Ensure there is enough space around the fields for proper display and positioning.
