Actionstep Create New Matter

Learn how to create a new Actionstep matter from Smarter Drafter

Pre-requisites: prior to being able to create a new matter, Actionstep field mapping will need to be completed on the form to create a new matter from. See Actionstep Field Mapping guide for more information.

Smarter Drafter allows the creation of a new matter in Actionstep from the submission of a form.

The option to Create a New matter in Actionstep will not appear if the form setup in Smarter Drafter does not have at least one document template uploaded.

  • Click Forms > Fill and select the relevant form and click Start Form
  • In the matter details dialog, select Actionstep in the Matter Details and name the Submission as required. In the case of creating a new matter, no Actionstep matter should be selected.

  • Complete all required fields in the form and click Submit Form.
  • This will present an option to send document to Actionstep. Click Yes (this may require Actionstep authentication, if so login and grant access).

Note: Actionstep may have fields that are required for a contact to be created, therefore those fields will need to be mapped in Smarter Drafter to allow the ability for Smarter Drafter and Actionstep to sync information.

  • The option to ‘Upload the document(s) to an existing matter’ and ‘Create a new matter and optionally upload the document(s)’ will now appear.
  • Select ‘Create a new matter and optionally upload the document(s)’
  • Enter a matter name – this will appear as the matter name in Actionstep
  • Add a file name that will appear in Actionstep File Ref field
  • Click Send to submit the request which will create the matter and upload the document to Actionstep

The matter will be created in Actionstep and document uploaded to the Matter Documents location.
